"The aim of this (2002) guide is to provide a framework to assist all teachers and other educators in government schools to select and use resources which are culturally appropriate, and in keeping with the NSW Department of Education and Training’s Aboriginal Education Policy." (p6)

"The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan (2010-2014) is a national plan that commits all governments in Australia to a unified approach to closing the gap in education outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students." There is a link here to download the plan. 

Defines the NSW Department of Education's commitments in schools, TAFE NSW Institutes and community education settings. Developed in response to the Report of the Review of Aboriginal Education 2004, in collaboration with Aboriginal communities and key partners.

This AITSL film teachers explain the 8 ways learning framework, which includes 8 interconnect pedagogies. A primary school teacher demonstrates a literacy lesson and considers community links, significance and also refers to the Qulaity Teaching Framework.  

This fact sheet explains the 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning and sets out the reasons why these pedagogies are useful for all students.   

This wiki is not run by the DoE but rather managed by DoE teachers in the Wagga region. There are lots of resources here, a discussion board and examples of best practice.    

This NSW Department of Education site showcases examples of school-developed context-based teaching and learning projects collaboratively developed by teachers, Aboriginal education workers and local community members. There is a section on Aboriginal Art (and a link taking you to the Affirmations of Identity handbook) and advice on authentic school and Aboriginal community partnerships.   

This link takes you to the National Program Standards for Initial Teacher Education. The first priority area is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.

This is a free goal setting program that has been successfully currently being trialed in the NSW schools. "The MGoals program supports Aboriginal Culture and Education by providing local Aboriginal communities and schools with an online project that assists students to create their goals for living and learning." There are two parts to the program- a website building project that allows schools to collaborate with Aboriginal communities to build a unique localised website resouce. The second aspect is an online, interactive goal setting program.  

  

 

   

This site 'Aboroginal and Torres Straight Islander Histories and Cultures' is an ABC site with thousands of videos, audio clips, games and interactive tools. All resources are free to watch and play at home and in school. The resources are labelled with the subject area that they might suit and many are specifically on Visual Arts and artists. There are special areas for parents and teachers featuring articles and blog posts,teaching resources and up-to-date education news.
